PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 2:54 am    Post subject: emerge -e world question..[SOLVED] Reply with quote

I was in the process of upgrading gcc per the upgrade guide using emerge -e system followed by emerge -e world. The process was humming along working on the very last package of the world file (open office) when my son decided to log out of my account (had the screen locked but I did not bother to use "nohup emerge -e world") to use grip under his account. According to him he only used grip then logged back out. I checked my emerge log and came up with the fact that I was on the last package and nothing else had been attempted. I tried "emerge --resume" and was greeted with "it appears that we have nothing to do"... I started "emerge -v open office" and the version numbers checked out with what was in the log..
My question is :
Should my system be ok with just finishing the Open Office build (followed by emerge --sync and emerge -vuD world (normal updates for this machine)) ?
-OR-
Do I need to do the whole process all over again from the beginning ( -e system / -e world ) ?

Thanks!

--- Sorry I forgot to include this in my initial post. From emerge.log :
Code:

I'm assuming that the build did not finish based on the fact that I'm not seeing any mention of "Post-Build Cleaning" at the end of the log..
Let me know if I need to post any additional information.

realistically you'll likely be just fine forgetting about it (and maybe cleaning up your /var/tmp space).

if it's important to you (or you run into issues)
Code:
emerge -pe world
will give you the list in the order it would run them - so you could redo the last two with:
Code:
emerge -av --oneshot [last two packages]

bemis-
Thanks for the reply! After
Code:
emerge -pe world

I found that in addition to Open Office I still needed to rebuild gentoolkit!.. I finished that up early this morning and left the machine to
Code:

emerge --sync

and
Code:

emerge -vuD world

If I have time I'll check it again and verify that all is well this evening!
I'll mark this post "solved" as I think it addressed my issue of the moment...
Thanks again for taking time to reply!
