the first time i ever install gentoo things ran without a hitch..
i had samba up and running without any difficulties..
however due to other circumstances i had to reinstall gentoo..
and since then i have not been able to get samba running properly..
the problem i am facing is the smbpasswd command..
for some reason the program keeps notifying that
the passdb database could not be written too..
therefore i cant set passwords and therefore i can not log
into my own computer from another windows machine on
the net work..
please assume everything else is fine..

sounds like a permissions problem to me.
or whatever the file holding your passwords is named. |

well i'll look into that..
but i am trying to run smbpasswd as root..
so i doubt that is the problem..
any other reasons?
btw i havent been able to locate the password file..
does it come with the samba install or is it generated?
thanx
edit :
i got it working... i have to use smbpasswd -a 'username'
the '-a' option makes new entries.. i had used it earlier and forgot about it this time.. |
