I have an old Gentoo box that hasn't been updated in oh, three or four months. When I ran an emerge sync and attempted to upgrade Portage, GCC, and X.org, I get digest errors. It says an "emerge sync" will fix them, but that's clearly untrue as I've had this problem for two days now.

Right now I'm having trouble with linux-headers-2.6.16, it cannot resolve the digest correctly. I also had a similar issue with sandbox when trying to upgrade Portage.

I'm not sure the full scope of this problem, though it would appear to be quite the show stopper, and I'd rather not go around manually redoing digests, because, well, that's a sucky way of fixing this problem.

Pycrypto had problems a few weeks ago. Re-emerge it and you should be fine.

^- It is only 'fighting' the symptoms.
And since a package >might< be broken you could get into trouble, so that would be very nasty. There is a good reason why packages are checked before un-packing etc... :)
