Hi,
I recently did a --sync and --update and emerge installed a number of packages, including gcc-4.1.1 I was doing other work on my system in a separte console and heard the "beep beep beep" signal from emerge, requesting attention. I switched consoles just in time to see the lines emphasized by yellow asterisks but could not read the message.
Luckily I visited the gcc upgrade instructions on gentoo website and found out that I had to use gcc-config to switch compilers and then do a system/world rebuild. Since I usually run emerge in some xtrem while doing other work, I usually miss messages signalled by beeps. I looked in the emerge log but as far as I can tell, these messages are not included so I feel uncomfortable, knowing that I am probably missing important messages like the above. So I would like to ask if I may, are these messages logged somewhere and if not is there a way to capture them to a file? Can I find out what post-emerge actions I have missed so far?
My thanks in advance! _________________ Regards

Hi.
You can enable the PORT_LOGDIR feature in /etc/make.conf to have emerge create a log file for each package that is emerged. This can be helpful if you want to report a bug. If you use PORT_LOGDIR=/var/log/portage, don't forget to create the dir and to set its owner to portage:portage. _________________ Jorge.
