Hey,

I've just emerged openoffice-2.0.2-r1 (upgraded from 2.0.1), but now when I load it up, it fails to load.

First I get the following error message:

Quote:
Missing vcl resource. This indicates that files vital to localization are missing. You might have a corrupt installation.

Then, it continues to try to load, and I get the following message:

Quote:
iso resource could not be loaded by SfxApplication

and then it quits.

Anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

David

Now an emerge --info --verbose:

Quote:

same problem on this forum, and apparently you need to set a locale. Maybe use the locale guide to set a locale?

ok - well - that didn't work.

I added a "LINGUAS="en_US" to my make.conf, and a "LANG="en_US"" and a
"LC_ALL="en_US"" to my /etc/env.d/02locales and did a env-update.

Then I recompiled openoffice from scratch. Same problem - except now instead of giving the second error message and quitting, it just crashes after the first error message.

One quirk though - i've noticed that if i run ooffice, I get the first error message but the openoffice shell loads up. Its only when I create a writer file (or open one), or any other file type, that it crashes.

as always, any help is appreciated. its really getting quite frustrating, as not having a word processor to work with is really quite annoying!!!

cheers,

David

I've been doing a bit of reading. You could always use the binary file (openoffice-bin) instead of compile of source. Be happy that you were able to actually compile it, as I've tried to compile it in the past and it has never finished.

When you install openoffice-bin, you also install all the locale packages that you're missing in the source. So, IMO, you've got a number of options, in no particular order,

1 - Forget about source and go with binary
2 - Install binary, and perhaps the current compiled version will fix itself, as the relevant locale stuff will be installed with oo-bin. Then you can try uninstalling the bin and maybe, maybe, it might just all work.
3 - Check the bugs section on the gentoo website for your problem. If you don't see what you're looking for, file a bug report.
