AutoSplitting blib/lib/Compress/Zlib.pm (blib/lib/auto/Compress/Zlib)
/usr/bin/perl5.8.7 /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.7/ExtUtils/xsubpp  -typemap /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.7/ExtUtils/typemap -typemap typemap  Zlib.xs > Zlib.xsc && mv Zlib.xsc Zlib.c
i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -c  -I./zlib-src -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -I/usr/include/gdbm -O2 -mtune=i686 -pipe   -DVERSION=\"1.41\" -DXS_VERSION=\"1.41\" -fPIC "-I/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.7/i386-linux/CORE"   Zlib.c
gcc-config error: Could not run/locate "i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc"

!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

This is my emerge --info output :
Code:

run
Code:
gcc-config -l

and select the wanted profile (ex. i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5)
then run:
Code:
source /etc/profile
env-update

if that doesn't work, try recompiling gcc, but probably that wont work either then
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Recover_from_%22emerge_--unmerge_gcc%22

good luck.

If nothing works, a cheap hack is to simply create a symlink to i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc called i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc.

Not a very good solution, but just something if you are feeling lazy. :)
