| has anyone ever found/experimented with an opensource irc/chat/im server on linux? if so, do you have any recommendations as to the one with the most features/fewest vulnerabilities? thanks. |

I run jabberd2. The configuration files are very well documented and easy to setup. If you like Java, you might want to take a look at Wildfire IM Server (formerly named Jive Messenger).
ejabberd on the other hand has the reputation to be very solid. |

I'm working with Wildfire and Spark now...thanks for the recommendation. Will look at others, too. |

seems as ejabberd is quite outdated in the portage:
