I'd like to switch out my hard drive for a larger one and am wondering if I can avoid reinstallation. Would it be possible to do something like tar all data on all partitions, save the tarball to another computer and then switch the hard drives, place a filesystem(s) on the new one and then extract the tarball(s) there? If so, any tips?
