|
|
I have run into a new problem here. I recently changed motherboards, and had the lovely irq problem:
Q. My X server fails to start, and my X log file contains the error:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA kernel module does not appear to be receiving
(EE) NVIDIA(0): interrupts generated by the NVIDIA graphics device.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Please see the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS section in
(EE) NVIDIA(0): the README for additional information.
and, following the readme, and lots of trial and error, found the combination:
pci=noacpi pci=biosirq io-apic=on irqpoll
and added them to my kernel paramaters, which allowd me to actually load X with the nvidia drivers.
However, now I get this:
http://wilson.freeshell.net/pictures/screen.jpg
in firefox (1.5.0.3), thunderbird, etc. However, it does not affect tuxracer, bzflag, quake 3, etc.
I have a Geforce 4 MX, kernel is 2.6.16-ck9, x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1, sys-devel/gcc-4.1.0, sys-libs/glibc-2.4-r2 media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8756, media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.8756
This problem does not occur with the nv drivers. (which is what I am using now).
Anyone seen this before, or know what would cause this? I haven't been able to google much because I really don't know what to call the error.
Cheers, |

looks like it does not happen when I run xgl.
normal window manager is fluxbox, xgl i use xfce4 (which has same prob in normal x). |

you know, this may not be so helpful but i had a problem that looked almost exactly like this long ago. if i remember correctly it was fixed after i did a lot of futzing around with my fonts. do you have a ~/.fonts.conf? i know if i break mine, some apps render garbage or nothing at all on screen instead of text.
so if you haven't looked in that direction, you might give it a try.
good luck. |
