From your list, I managed to run Starcraft and Broodwar through Wine (0.9.X).
I didn't try any of the other games. _________________ python>>> q="'";s='q="%c";s=%c%s%c;print s%%(q,q,s,q)';print s%(q,q,s,q)

There's a Loki installer for Jedi Outcast, which I used and it runs fine. I also play The Frozen Throne, which works fine. |

All the Diablo's work well under wine. I run Diablo II: LoD out of the box with no issues. The sound used to go out on it after a half out playing or so, but that was on wine-0.9.8, and I just went to the ~x86 wine-0.9.12 so I haven't tested it out yet.
I haven't done it, but I've seen/heard that Steam works.
Warcraft 3 is rated as gold, so it should be fine...
The only one that I know has issues is Guild Wars. I'd really like to be able to play this easily on linux, so I'll be trying to get this to work under wine in the next few weeks (after I finish these finals).
Oh, and for any of you that use Xfire I got it working the other day, and it's been running fine on my computer ever since... otherwise there's always Xfire for Gaim plugin...

cool, thnx. I'm running into a LOT of sound problems using wine.
Runing warcraft 3 or the frozen throne sound is either really really choppy and then it quits on me, or if i run it with the -opengl flag i get this
Quote: |
fuag@gentoo ~/.wine/c/Program Files/Warcraft III $ wine ./Warcraft\ III.exe -opengl
err:ole:CoCreateInstance apartment not initialised
fuag@gentoo ~/.wine/c/Program Files/Warcraft III $ X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 429
Current serial number in output stream: 429
fuag@gentoo ~/.wine/c/Program Files/Warcraft III $

on worms world party i get major sound errors, its really glitchy, by switching to oss although i got sound to work but the video doesn't update. Aliens versus preditor randomly stops working while playing, usually don't get passed main menu, assuming it's also a sound issue. Farcry flatout crashes from the loki installer but thats a huge issue not gonna work on it now. Diablo's are all running fine. temple of elemental evil wont run but it installed fine. Havn't tried steam yet, Fallout Tactics has a loki installer for wine, but when i attempt to run it it complains it cant find blinkw32.dll ad wne i copy the version from its foldier to c:/windows or c:/windows/system/ it complainst that i have incorrectly installed it.
Heres an updated list of games i still needa get working and a small description of whats wrong with them.
Fallout Tactics - Complains about blinkw32.dll, used loki installer
Temple of elemental evil - wont run, winehq says it's supposed to go fairly well
warcraft 3 - sound issues or glx issues
worms world party - sound issues/video
AvP - halts randomly.
I'll keep working on em, please post any ideas, still fairly new to wine. |

What version of wine are you using?
If it is prior to wine-0.9.12 then you need to emerge wine with opengl support:
Code: | USE="opengl" emerge wine |
As far as the sound goes, my sound always seems to "hesitate" under large CPU loads... but it doesn't concern me that much. I also have ALSA compiled into the kernel, but I think this is more by preference than by neccesity.
The only other thing I would check is to make sure that you set Audio to Emulation through 'winecfg'.
Here's how mine is set:
OSS Driver
hardware Acceleration: Emulation
Default Sample Rate: 48000 Default Bits Per Second: 8
I think I need to mess with the default sample rate to get the sound to work better on my system (44100 might work)... I haven't played with it enough. |

My $0.02
I run Jedi Outcast and Warcraft 3 flawlessly, and used to be able to run Diablo II (don't know what happened.) I've also fiddled about with Starcraft, and I think it's running fine.
As far as Warcraft 3 goes, here are my specs, and it runs at windows speed or faster, with only the occasional wierd missing polygon:
Wine 0.9.12
Windows 2000 mode
OSS for sound
Using ATI's fglrx driver
running with -opengl
Hope that helps. I've had annoying problems with older games, but the relatively new ones, like WC3, things run pretty smoothly. _________________ "Ford," he said, "you're turning into a penguin. Stop it." |

I wouldn't recommend the cvs-version of cedega to anyone..........
But I wouldn't recommend anyone to give a penny to Transgaming either
Last time I tried the cvs (long ago) it was a complete mess and Transgaming always did its best to discourage anyone from using it.
They're vilains. Don't support them. |

For the folks trying to run Guild wars with wine, have you tried the various command line options that guild wars has?
guildwarsguru.com forum archived article for more info
However the -dx8, -windowed, -noshaders, -nosound options might help some what. Well assuming they still work as suggested :p _________________ Pollution is here to stay. Nope. It cost money.. You gotta buy it off of steampowered.com (Not worth it imo) |

Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy both work very nicely with Wine here. The audio has about a half-second delay for me unless I set the hardware acceleration in winecfg to Emulation, and then pops frequently unless I enable Driver Emulation. With both of those set sound works perfectly. I'm using the ALSA driver, 44.1 KHz.
Starcraft and Brood War are both fully playable in single player. Battle.net is still mostly unusable for me because of a certain issue.
Last time I tried Diablo (somewhere around wine-0.9, I think), its menus were all black screens, so you had to work your way through them by sound, but the game itself was completely playable in both SP and MP.
Hitman 2, Hitman Contracts, and KotOR 1 and 2 are queued for testing next rainy day. |
