I have a very strange problem with my external usb sound device. When playing sound, it works perfectly for a while but then it just stops playing. There is nothing in /var/log/messages (I have alsa debugging enabled in kernel) and if I use mpg321, it seems to be keeping playing but no sound comes out. If I stop mpg321 and start it again, the sound comes back and disappears again after a while. A while is sometimes 5 or 10 seconds, sometimes a minute.

I have two cards (just got the switching working). My configuration can be seen at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-455287.html

The problem only occurs when I use the external device. I have used the device with linux many times and a lot of time before, and it has never given me any problems like this.

Thank you.

Now it gets even more weird. The problem does not occur when I use alsaplayer. Could this be an alsa bug?
