|
|
bought a new graphicscard, ati radeon x800 gto, and now I can't set the resolution in console.
when I use vesafb-tng with 1024x768 it only shows scattered bootmessages around the screen at 640x480 (or something) and freezes.
this worked fine with my nvidiacard
If I use vesafb vga = 791 or vga = 0x318 still displays 640x480
dmesg show nothing about vesafb or something like that
with radeonfb I can't even boot, 'cause it stops when radeonfb looking for a second screen that don't exist, but still in 640x480.
when I run livecd everything works fine in 1024x768.
I have tried the kernel config file and the bootparameters from livecd but still I can't get 1024x768 without the livecd.
running kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r2
same problem whether I use lilo or grub
thanks for help

ok..here's my first grub.conf that worked fine with my nvidia card, vesafb-tng
Code: |
splashimage= (hd0,0)/grub/lila.xpm.gz
timeout 5
default 0
title Gentoo
root (hd1,1)
kernel (hd0,0)/bzImage root=/dev/sda2 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@85
|
and I have also tried with vga=791 with vesafb instead of vesafb-tng, video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,1024x768-32@85
same result... |

Hi again
I have 3 ati systems
acer 5024WMLi laptop with PCI Express X700
XP3200 system with AIW 9800 SE
XP2800 system with AIW 7200
All these work with vesafb, mixed results with vesafb-tng and shit with radeonfb.
Some modes do not work with all cards - have you tried with other colour depths e.g. vga=792(32 bit colour this works for me on all of them)
vga=795 (1280x1024 32 bit) on the 9800
vga=792 (1024x768 32 bit) on the laptop with 1280x800 lcd panel
Other problems occur when I have had both vesa and radeon enabled in kernel |
