Kde 3.0.1.20020604 XDMCP problems

I have a brand new Gentoo 1.2 install with KDE 3.01.20020604 installed. I haven't messed around with xwindows in gentoo before. My gentoo box is a server and it has no monitor hooked up to it.
My friend is using identical setup with exceed connecting through xdmcp broadcast and using kde, he doesn't have XF86Config at all and everything works just fine.
My problem is, I can get KDM to XDMCP broadcast and I can connect to it with exceed, but when I try to start kde 3.0 from the login menu it won't start. I have the following error in kdm.log:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display "!!IP-ADDRESS!!:0.0".

I know this has something to do with opengl and maybe nvidia, but why oh why do I get that error. I have tried with XF86Config file (Load "glx"
) and without, but as I said my friend does not have any XF86Config file and everything works just fine.
