|
|
Hi guys
I've acquired a Sun Enterprise 250. It's got mostly standard hardware right now, 2x400Mhz Sparc II's, 1.25GB ram, etc, etc. I want to pick up a good GigE NIC for this box, but I'm on a tight budget and naturally can't go with an original Sun card. Any suggestions on a nice little gem that'll perform well for <=$100? It's currently running a 2.6.8 kernel.
Thanks in advance |

I'm running a SUN Blade 2000 using a
Code: | $> lspci
[...]
0001:00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82544EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper) (rev 02) |
It works very well and is fully supported by the kernel (2.6.15-gentoo-r7). I don't know about prices, though. |

You'd do well to report success/failure stories so that http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/sparc/hwlist.xml can get updated and people know what to get and what not. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

We usually try to verify things a bit to avoid bogus reports, since some people may choose to buy stuff based on those listings (even though we have a disclaimer about such behaviour).
There's also the ricer factor, "it boots, it's super stable!" when it may not be so, with respect to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/sparc/sunhw.xml _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

I have two older boxes (P3, 833MHz) that I'm going to be using as webservers, and the Intel 82544EI GigE (Optical) between them to RSync. Having problems getting them to communicate. I've loaded the e1000 kernel module in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6, and the NIC is recognized as eth0, but when I set manual IP's it won't ping. They work just fine when I boot both boxes on the Gentoo LiveCD. Any suggestions, or is this just a matter of doing an lsmod in the LiveCD and modules.autoloading those modules?
Thanks |
