In one of the comments to the updated Stage 1/3 Installation Guide: 2006.0, GCC 4.1.0, Glibc 2.4 (note: registration required) at the end of page BoB P wrote something about the patches he and his Jackass team has made.

Maybe it could be benefitting if those fixes were investigated and put into Gentoo eventually? At least, a work done is work done. No need to do it again. And IMO giving the credit to the Jackass team for it would also be nice. :)

No politics. Just asking...

Edit:
Removed the direct quote of Bob's post. Please go and visit his site if you are interested in the original text.
And once again sorry for the trouble I've unintentionally made.

Being the good souls that we are, everyting we've done is released under the GPL so that everyone can benefit from it. Maybe Gentoo will even incorporate the fixes into their next set of CDs. :)

The copyleft

Furthermore, the distributed copies, including the modifications, must also be licensed under the terms of the GPL.

Thanks for being such a good lad, Bob P! :P

I'd recommend finding out who the leads are for the respective areas, and approaching them via IRC. Most devs don't frequent the forums.

I could be blind but, I don't see any of the patches he's made available for download.

It would have been nice if they submitted the changes to bugzilla -- perhaps they already did?

See the original discussion on the site.

I'm not going to cross-quote the posts anymore.

Because Jackass! has become rather popular and because Jackass! had been consuming a fair amount of Gentoo's bandwidth, one of the Gentoo Forum Admin suggested that Jackass! should have its own site. To honor that request, and to ease some of the load on the Gentoo Forums, we've created the Jackass! site as the place to discuss all things related to Jackass!

As a result of having to run another site, I currently have my hands full and I'm not spending as much time here as I used to. I'm not reading as much here, and I'm not writing as much here either. If people are interested in responding to my posts, it would make sense to respond to them in the forum in which they were created. It certainly doesn't do any good to copy them and replicate them somewhere else, and to expect me to run from forum to forum chasing hyperlinks.

For this reason I would prefer that people leave the posts that I make on the Jackass! site on the Jackass! site, and not reproduce them elsewhere. I'd also prefer that people who have questions about Jackass! ask them at the Jackass! site. I just don't have the time to follow links and to post in multiple Forums.

You're not blind. You probably just haven't looked in the right places. The bugs and their fixes have been discussed in the following locations:

1. bugzilla reports on catalyst
2. the catalyst mailing list
3. the catalyst threads here
4. the human-readable source code on the CD

Yes, we used Catalyst2 to create the new (experimental) Jackass! Live CD. Catalyst2 is a very complex tool, and it took quite a bit of time for me to learn to use it. Just to put things in perspective, the CD isn't a finished product -- its the first test CD that we've created for beta testing. Although I don't have the time to support Chris' product or to write doucmentation for him (catalyst documentation is sparse), anyone who's familiar with the process of creating a Live CD using catalyst will know exactly where to look for the fixes, and they'll find that all of the necessary information is at their fingertips. I hope that this clears things up. :)

I had a (quick) look on bugzlla and failed to spot anything. But I'm not a fan of it and it's painfully slow at times. Mailing lists I didn't even consider, and I didn't (for whatever reason) think you'd post them here. As for the CD, being unfamiliar with catalyst (I want to learn it, but I don't want to be trying with broken software) I haven't a clue where to look on the CD.

Any chance of a pointer in the right direction, or, if possible, a tar of the lot?

There is a whole thread devoted to catalyst/catalyst2 in the Gentoo Chat.
Will that do?

make a symlink and call it a day! If anything, keeping all the config stuff in one directory is a large improvement!
