Hello,

I'm new to gentoo, and it appears my mount command is setuid. Has my machine been compromised? :(

(I actually noticed this while configuring a floppy drive and nitcing that upon mounting it I received the following error:

bws@riggins:~:71> mount /mnt/floppy
grep: /etc/vfstab: No such file or directory
bws@riggins:~:72> cd /mnt/floppy/
bws@riggins:/mnt/floppy:73> ls
boot/ lost+found/

Quite bizarre, thus worrying me that something wasn't quite right. I just built this machine and replaced my hand secured firewall/router with a commercial wireless router. So I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get everything locked down properly :(.

Thanks for any help
Brad

I don't think you need to worry, /bin/mount is supposed to be suid.

It probably needs the extra privlidges to allow non-root users to mount
filesystems. If you do not use those features, you could probably remove
the setuid bit.

I haven't, however, tested that.
