huh? How do you all compile your kernel? :S
Code:
# uname -a
Linux dingbat 2.6.16-nitro-git9 #1 PREEMPT Sun Mar 26 18:50:18 CST 2006 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz GNU/Linux

This is what I get. I checked this out ... couple days ago. Compiled it at the date listed though. :P

Cheers.

Um, when do you expect to have a normal solo patchset ready? Unfortunately, due to the fact that I am behind an http proxy, I cannot use git and subsequently I cannot checkout the nitro sources tree :(

How can that be? git is using a normal http connection..
is the nitro url restricted by your proxy?

Well it kinda needs a weird configuration to make it work through proxy and sadly I do not have the time to deal with it for the time being. Is the final nitro that far away?

What are we supposed to do without nitro? Remember, we are nerds who don't have another life other than constantly breaking our computers with software updates

It's just for the sake of changing the patchset name. Eventually it will boil down to a similar to nitro patchset...:P :P

not exactly...

The plan is to have best from both worlds of nitro and archck: stable and featurerich.
We will probably maintain two trees:
The stable one will be under control of iphitus, and as stable as archck always was,
the testing one will be in sync with stable and including stuff pending for eventual merge.

All nitro fans are encouraged to help at testdriving the testing branch, but only the stable one will have a non-git release system.

I'm impressed, sounds like a much better way of doing it.

I'm sorry I am too lazy to read the whole thread, but my cdrom is still not working, so not showing up as a second sata drive... is there a solution to this already?

Hell no it wont. ;)

As Tiger said, there will be stable and unstable, stable will be more in the vein of archck, whereas unstable, will contain other things, pending movement into stable, and probably some other stuff that will never hit stable.

-$newname is going to rock ;)

I hope the unstable branch will break enough things, otherwise all the fun would be gone ;)

PostPosted: Fri Mar 31, 2006 12:14 pm    Post subject: 'follows non-static declaration' with gcc 4.1 Reply with quote

Hi,

gone from gcc3.4.5 to 4.10 i tried to compile this nitro-version, but:

Code:
 CC      kernel/power/main.o
  CC      kernel/power/process.o
  CC      kernel/power/console.o
  CC      kernel/power/pm.o
  CC      kernel/power/shared.o
  CC      kernel/power/snapshot.o
  CC      kernel/power/swsusp.o
  CC      kernel/power/disk.o
kernel/power/disk.c:75: error: static declaration of 'in_suspend' follows non-static declaration
include/linux/suspend.h:46: error: previous declaration of 'in_suspend' was here
make[2]: *** [kernel/power/disk.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [kernel/power] Error 2
make: *** [kernel] Error 2

Ouugh!!

So i compiled Kernel with gcc-3.4.5, but there:
Code:
 CC      arch/i386/lib/usercopy.o
  AR      arch/i386/lib/lib.a
  GEN     .version
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  UPD     include/linux/compile.h
  CC      init/version.o
  LD      init/built-in.o
  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
kernel/built-in.o: In function `swsusp_suspend':
: undefined reference to `in_suspend'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

Upps. What to do now??

emerge --info says:
Code:
einstein linux-2.6.16-nitro # emerge --info

This commit was a preparation to make the last official release of nitro.
I bumped vanilla to 2.6.16.1 too. if something broke, scream before i make the diff.

if everything goes well, -git11 was the last commit before -nitro1 aka. exitus.
It includes suspend2 update to latest stable (2.2.2.1) and ck update to ck2, although this one was rather
tiny ;)

T

EDIT: suspend2 was quite broken, i just commited an initial attempt to fix it...

EDIT2: ok, git12 is up, compilation of sws2 is fixed, only god knows if it also works :U

Well, everything seems to be working here except for two things:
Cisco VPN Client (still think its a config issue somewhere I haven't found yet)
MadWifi Drivers (I think its on their end.. but I'll post what I get anyway)

Madwifi:
Code:

No other errors before that.. Other then that.. all is good. :)

With the vpnclient.. I'll ask since maybe someone knows... I'm able to login and connect.... it auth's and everything.. but once connected, I can't get anywhere... I can only ping the cisco vpn server, and nothing else. So I'm not sure what that is, still working on it.

Edit:
All is working...
Madwifi compiled cleanly when I moved to Beyond1, however I didn't notice if there was a revision to the madwifi, but I don't think there was
The vpn client I got messing with.. and I did figure it out.. it was a setting, but not in the kernel. In the profile, I needed "EnableNat=1" to enable Nat Passthrough or something. So thats wokring now :):)

Off to use Beyond1
