First of all, I am used to figuring out everything myself (well at least by searching through forums). Unfortunately for me, my little problem is unsearchable in all the major search engines. (They won't search for punctuation) Heres the story:
I'm running the Virtual Hosting Server that I found in gentoo docs from a year ago. Everything has been going fine for me, until I tried to make a new email account. I know its probably my ignorance/stupidity, but I just cannot seem to figure it out. I do the maildirmake .maildir like I normally would, and it creates the mail directory for me. Of course I have to go back and chown/mod it because I have the terrible habit of always running root. Anyway, it builds the directories fine as far as I can tell, but when I send email to that account, it doesnt go to the cur/tmp/new folders like it should, instead, all of the mail is being dumped to ./.maildir/? and I can't seem to figure out why. And of course, I can't search for ? because the search engines don't like punctuation. It is quite frustrating to say the least.
I would assume the problem has something to do with me not creating the proper .maildir, but I have deleted and remade the directory (with maildirmake and manually), restarted postfix, turned on -vv logging (which hasn't shown me anything useful, at least not that I can spot), and even tried copying the .maildir from another working account, but still, no luck for me. If anyone has any idea on what is going on, or even where I can try to find out more information on this, I would be INCREDIBLY appreciative.

Figured it out. Sorry to waste everybodys time. Basically, the problem was me making the maildirs in the first place. After I deleted the maildir and sent a mail to the account, Postfix created the maildir for me, and it works. (jackass) |

I see two possible issues.
1. The easiest way to make a maildir is to let Postfix do it for you. Just send a new user an email. If this doesn't work, assuming you have the home dir created, then something is broken.
2. Some config issue. If the db the mail dir needs to be defined as /var/vmail/whatever/.maildir/ not /.maildir The trailing slash is important. Also you need this setting you /etc/postfix/main.cf, home_mailbox = .maildir/ and that trailing slash is important as well.
