I'm sure wellenreiter must be in portage as I've seen bugs filed against it but I can't find it

# emerge -s wellenreiter
Searching...

[ Applications found : 0 ]

Is it still in portage, if not can anyone point me at a current ebuild?

Ye, and looked in the net-wireless ebuilds directory, it isn't there.

Why would something be removed from portage? Even if the maintainer quits then isn't the old version usually left in there.
