|
|
Hey everyone,
I have been fighting with this issue for some time now, but maybe the gentoo community can help me out.
The problem is that the sound in Quake 4 has about a one second delay (so when I shoot, I see the shot then hear the sound a second later). I have tried all the suggestions about changing from ALSA to OSS and the hw setting but nothing has worked. Sound in other games is fine.
My specs are as follows:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
Video Card: BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC
Sound Card: Audigy 2
Memory: 1 GB
HD: 125GB on the partition where the game is installed; 2GB swap
Further information that may be helpful:
- the problem occurs in single player and multiplayer
- I have had this problem through three Linux installations: Mandriva 2006 and two gentoo installs
- it works in Windows
- I have run the game with only X running and no desktop manager (ie no KDE nor Gnome running)
- the install of Quake I am running now is directly off of the gentoo mirrors, installed with emerge. Nothing is masked and I did not have any problems during installation
Other than that I cannot think of anymore relevant information. Thank you. |

I suppose that you've kept your home directory through all of your installs, so have you tried moving your ~/.quake4 to ~/.quake4_old and then running the game? _________________

Thanks for the quick reply. I have gone through several config files over the course of this issue. Using the default settings does not help with the sound though. |

But did you try moving your whole ~/.quake4 folder and then running the game?
Does the problem also occur when you run the game as another user/root? _________________

This problem has been around since the demo of Q4. Some have it, some don't. Some fix works for some, but we unlucky ones will have to wait till iD fixes it. There's a thread about this on these forums already by the way. _________________ When Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, they make a vacuum cleaner. |
