I had XFree 4.2 installed and working very well. I installed KDE 3.1.1 and everything ok. Since I updated Xfree to 4.3.0-r1 I'm having problems running kde. I noted strange things when running:

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p xfree

Code:

[ebuild R] x11-base/xfree-4.3.0-r1

and

emerge -p kde

Code:

[ebuild R] kde-base/kde-3.1.1

I keep trying to emerge these 2 packages, but it seems that portage wants to replace them and apparently doesn't succeed!!! :?

Any idea?

I haven't understood your problem. What you mean with "I keep trying to emerge these 2 packages, but it seems that portage wants to replace them and apparently doesn't succeed". When your emerge them again the process fails? And with what output?

emerge should reinstall a packages if you try to emerge one already installed, and since it has already emerged it it's strange that it fails.

I mean since emerge outputs [ebuild R] I retry a to emerge them again. The process of replacing doesn't fail.

When emerge process finishes I try emerge -p and I get the same output [ebuild R].

qpkq -I -v shows that packages are installed, but kde fails starting ... :cry:

This behaviour is correct, if you do 'emerge [package] and [package] is already installed emerge reinstalls it.

There are no error messages?
