I'm using 2.6.15-gentoo-r1. I've tried compiling alsa into the kernel and I've tried not compiling and using alsa-driver. But without fail the computer can never find intel8x0, the module for my soundcard. What should I do?
(It has worked in the past; when I rebooted once sound stopped working and it hasn't worked since.)
Edit: Works again now after a manual recompile. First time I've ever had success with a non-genkernel kernel. But

Are you sure that you have:
Device Drivers ->
Sound ->
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ->
PCI Devices ->
Intel/SiS/nVidia/AMD/ALi AC97 Controller

If you're using alsa-driver, as opposed to the kernel's built-in alsa, then you need CONFIG_SOUND in the kernel (as either =M or =Y), and no other kernel alsa options. Then rc-update alsasound boot |
