I've set up some partitions for Gentoo recently on the same disk WinXP runs on. In order to be able to use the system while compiling, I've done most of the builds in vmware. In order to do that, I compiled both the driver for the vmware ethernet card and the actual adapter on my mainboard into the kernel. In vmware it works fine but when I boot from the physical disk I cannot get the network online.

I also keep getting this message when starting/stopping the net interface but not just then.

Please post the contents of your /etc/conf.d/net file.

I've found that you need to copy /etc/init.d/net.eth0 to /etc/init.d/net.eth1 if you want more than one interface.

Also. I don't have runscript.sh in /usr/sbin/. Mine is in /sbin/. Not sure why this is.

Yes, /sbin it is, sorry about that.

I got it working once I got rid of acpi in the kernel, it looks like that was the problem.

Any idea why I'm getting the runscript error thou?

Problem solved, there seems to have been some syntax error in the /etc/init.d/net.X scripts. Merge net-tools and overwrite them, error is gone.
