I HATE etc-update! Need an alternative!

doing etc-update after an emerge -u world is like getting my teeth pulled, or getting blood taken, orwalking barefoot across a kilometer of sandpaper!
There has to be an alternative! Is there?

Look for dispatch-conf (it's part of gentoolkit if I'm not wrong) or cfg-update (it was ~x86 last time I checked), which, I think, is by far the best one...
