Pardon me if this has been asked before or if the answer is glaringly obvious...
Is there a package that acts like xbindkeys or or lineak xkbevd... assign commands to keycodes basically, but doesn't require X? like if it reads from the /dev/input/event* or something?
evkeyd seem to does this except i can't bind commands to keys

I think that it depends on what desktop environment you have chosen.
KDE has a built-in system for handling all of your keyboard layout and "magic key" assignments. I think that I remember Enlightenment doing the same thing from text files.
Maybe change your subject line to include the name of your desktop and you'll get the right "expert" to respond. _________________ Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past. |

Well I kinda solved this by messing with evkeyd so it'd run a command instead of do its predefined functions... |
