This is my first time trying out the development kernel sources. My kernel and modules compiled perfectly using either the vanilla or mm sources. I rebooted only to find that my Netgear FA311 (which has worked flawlessy with the tulip driver since 2.2.x) no longer seemed to work. The module would load but the computer would sit waiting to bring eth0 up forever. Apparently, it was unable to contact my cable company's dhcp server. Output of lsmod says tulip is "unsafe". I would also like to point out that I am using the latest module-init-tools

I am writing to you using the same computer on a 2.4 kernel.

This is the line from lspci regarding this network card.
00:0d.0 Ethernet controller: Lite-On Communications Inc LNE100TX (rev 20)

Anybody have any ideas?

You can try to turn off the acpi .

If you use grub, You may have to modify one line in
grub.conf to be something similary to the follows.

kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage root=/dev/hda3 acpi=off

With such modification, my ethernet adapter works,
althought it does not use tulip driver.

Thanks, that worked for me too... hopefully by the time 2.6 comes out this issue will be resolved.
