|
|
Hello!
I am quite a beginner about these things and I guess, I made a mistake.
Due to another problem I followed someone's advice to remove my 47kdepaths-3.3.0 file and then do an env-update. Stupidly I did not backup the file before deleting it.
Afterwards my kde didnt work properly anymore, which means that it didnt show the kdm-login.screen on startup, but the x.org-login-screen instead, and when I wanted to logout, I only got the options "close session" or "cancel", which means, that I couldn't shutdown or reboot my machine, except from the console.
So I tried to make a new 47kdepaths-3.3.0 - file by copying the code from 46kdepaths-3.4 into it and changing "3.4" to "3.3" everywhere.
So my 47kdepaths-3.3.0 looks like this now:
Code: |
PATH=/usr/kde/3.3/bin
ROOTPATH=/usr/kde/3.3/sbin:/usr/kde/3.3/bin
LDPATH=/usr/kde/3.3/lib
CONFIG_PROTECT="/usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown"
|
Now I get my kdm-login-screen like before, but I can only login as root and not as a different user. That is, I can choose a different user, but when I enter the password, the login screen disappears, but kde is not startet.
Is there any way to get my old 47kdepaths-3.3.0 back? Or can somebody tell me, what it should look like?
Thanks for your help! |

|

In the meantime I found out, that my 47kdepaths-3.3.0 appears to be correct. But the problem still exists. I still can only start kde when I log into kdm as root.
So I think this might be some permissions - problem, but I still dont know how to solve it.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or does anyone have an idea, what exactly could be wrong? |

Maybe you recently upgraded your KDE, and the session type chosen for root is one that still exists (like "Default"), whereas the session type chosen for your regular user (like, "kde-3.2.3" or something) is no longer valid. Hence, you can login, but only to be thrown out of the (nonexistent) session immediately.
If this is the case, you can easily fix your problem by choosing a valid session type from the Menu in your kdm login screen.
Good luck! |
