My gentoo system works fine, except the fact that courier-imap enters this crazy INFINITE LOOP OF DEATH when I try to emerge it. I'm about to give up and just try uwimap, but perhaps someone could give me some guidance on what the crap is going wrong.

this is normal ... it took about 10 minutes (might have been more - dont remember exactly) on my amd k6-2 500 to finish only the configure scripts. also, the messages are not identical - they just look identical (there are some little diffrences here and there). so just let it run and wait :)
