It seems to be related to gpg:
kMail only crashes when sending to a contact w/ gpg enabled
The crash happens when it does not encrypt
Turning off gpg fixes it, but that's temporary...
kgpg works fine

but I'm not so sure. I did a full update last night, and now kmail freezes whenever I try to reply, even with gpg off. |

Same problem here but it has nothing to do with gpg for me. Kmail crashes about 5 seconds after being started.

to stop kmail from crashing this worked for me:
kde 3.5:
| Code: |
cd .kde3.5/share/apps/
mv kmail kmail.old
|
or with kde 3.4:
| Code: |
cd .kde3.4/share/apps/
mv kmail kmail.old
|
start kmail |
