ok, while trying to emerge Gnome, KDE, or GTK i get this GTK+ error

Code:

Checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.5.0.... no
***Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why
***The test program failed to complie or link.

how can i repair GTK+, i tried to delete, and re-emerge but it always gives me a GTK+ error, -while- emerging GTK.

The reason I said post more is that more often than not it'll tell you that when filing a bug you should post the contents of config.log (and the path to that file)

:O
It seems impossible that Gtk checks for Gtk (!) ... what's the output of:
Code:
emerge -av gtk+

?

emerge -p gtk+ (used this so i could copy it to a file) shows

Code:

8O OMG! This seems a bug on portage or something related... in case this is not an error in your system It should be reported to bugzilla.

Btw, It seems that you have installed glib, atk, libpng, jpeg... then emerging like this may emerge gtk+...
Code:
emerge -av --oneshot --nodeps cairo pango gtk+

...and then you could continue to gnome. :/

You've got some sort of circular dependency going. emerge -pv gtk+ would help work out what it is, by showing the USE flags.

Ok, now it's fine, It looks like that is the correct emerge order. By now you may unset emacs on make.conf to continue your emerge. Let's wait to see what gurus say on this, I don't know if this type of problem have to be reported or not.

that worked :!: well, it got GTK+ in, lets see if KDE will do ok now

Btw, this is one type of occasion when using USE="-emacs" on the command line is justified; it allows you to overcome a circular dependency loop quickly.

@ecatmur: thanks for clarifying, I thought that was a bug (I'd never seen a "circular dependency loop" before  )
@bodhe: you may edit your first post and add a [solved] tag if you you're done :-p
