Strange DV question.

Hey guys, just had a random idea, forgive me if it's naive. I recently hooked up a dv camcorder to a dvd recorder with an i-link cable. Seeing as this process uses the firewire protocol, I was wondering if it is possible to output a dv stream, say, using a laptop with a firewire/i-link port. Firewire is not master/slave like USB (i think), so it should be possible to emulate, say, a camcorder. Ultimately, it would be awesome to get some kind of framebuffer/x11 magic going, and use said firewire port as a display port (to a tv or something). I know this sounds crazy.... Anyone know if it is even possible, or, better yet, someone has done it already?
