lspci:
Code:

00:1b.0 Class 0403: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

Code:

alsa, utils, tools, lib etc ver 1.0.10

cat /home/garbaty/.asoundrc :
Code:

pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
device 0
}

ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}

ALSA and OSS works fine with laptop speakers but when i plug in headphones or ext amplifirer to the headphone output there is no sound.

I run ALSA as modules, not compiled into kernel.

I thing the reason is that this sound card (realtek chipset) has also digital out (SPDIf) and gentoo recognizes it as 2 diiferent sound cards (digital and analog).
I have no idea how to force it to play saund using the analog one.

I'll be gratful for any help.

good to know I'm not the only one :) so far i have 1 logical explanation. Headphones etc are using analog output and the laptop speakers are using digital. Thing is i have no idea how to switch outputs? I also thought about compiling older ver. of alsa with HEADPHONE option in amixer...

In can confirm that the digital output does work, as I have a small box for heaphones with a digital SPDIF input. Only the analog output doesn't seem to work.

Found a solution on the net :D

Quote:

Sound works with with module snd_hda_intel. But to get the headphone-jack working you have to hand over a module parameter for example using 'modconf'. I use two parameters:

model=z71v position_fix=1

the second fixes noise problems -- use it if you experience an improvement. Instead of using 'modconf' you can edit/create /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel to look like mine:

options snd-hda-intel model=z71v position_fix=1

Now the headphone-jack works, but yet the volume controller of KDE's 'kmix' controls the volume of the headphone-jack and not the PCM volume. To change this, just right-click on kmix's icon in the tray and choose 'PCM' as the default channel.
For 'xine' or 'mplayer' to work correctly with DVD's it may be necessary to activate the down-mixing to stereo-sound. I haven't tried 5.1-output yet because of lacking the hardware.
