Hi
I have recently changed adsl providers and bought a new netgear dg834 v2 modem to go with it. It'd working fine under windows, and with my old modem it would be picked up and used fine on a network install of Gentoo also. However I am trying to reinstall Gentoo now and getting all sorts of problems...
On boot of the minimal install disk I see in the configuring hardware boot message:
network device eth0 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP... [ok]
However if I try to do anything such as ping www.yahoo.com I get...
ping: unknown host www.yahoo.com
i ran lspic and I see...
0000:02:08.0 Ethernet Controller: Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller (Rev 02)
The card is an Intel PRO/100 VE and is the same card I was successful with earlier.
Any suggestions as to where to go from here, I'm unsure exactly where to go from here.
Thanks
Tony |

Does ifconfig show that you have indeed obtained an IP address? If you do a 'route -n' to see your gateway address, can you ping it? Do you have any resolver information in /etc/resolv.conf? Can you get an IP address (known to you maybe by doing ahost lookup on another PC) and ping by IP address? Maybe DNS isn't working, etc. |
