Hi,

I have a couple of questions:

1. Why is XFree86 4.3.0 masked?
2. Is it safe to "ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge -u xfree", or do I get a bunch of unstable development version packages with it, such as xft, freetype, etc?
3. GNOME 2.2.1 has just been released, so I figure it's a good time to try out GNOME. Is there anything I have to do before emerging it if I want nice anti-aliased fonts and such?
4. What is Xfree86 Kernel DRM? I know it's a kernel module, and I think it renders graphics directly from the hardware, but is it useful for the desktop, or is it just for 3D games, etc?

My current Gentoo system:
- Athlon XP 1800+
- SiS K7S5A
- Kernel gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r1
- XFree 4.2.1
- KDE 3.1

I haven't installed any masked packages (~x86) so far.

Cheers!

Here we go:
1 - xfree 4.3.0 itself is not masked, but some other packages it depends on are, and those are freetype and fontconfig, so that should answer your second question too :) (you need unstable freetype for xfree 4.3.0)

3 - No, not that i recall, such packages should be installed automaticly
4 - drm is just the kernel module for dri, to get direct rendering support
