I'm doing a stage 2 install for an old P166 laptop with 800x600 resolution vga. It all looks good except I specified 640x480 in the kernel framebuffer and so the LCD looks untidy.
Is there a way to switch to 800x600 without doing a kernel recompile?
Compiling the kernel took several hours on this S L O W machine The OS runs GREAT though. I hope to get XFCE on it... |

Grub displays its splash, and I'm guessing it's displaying in a resolution other than 800x600 because it looks bad on my LCD. I haven't set up a frame buffer console though.
The video card is a Trident 9385, I enabled 2.6 kernel trident support but I'm not sure if it supports such an old card. I needed to recompile for the Opti 930 sound card anyway. Im emerge-ing xfce now but once that's done I'll see if I can get a framebuffer console working. |

I just noticed...
The console looks fine until it gets to the stage in booting where it sets the font, and then it looks awful, although still readable.
Is there any way that I can disable the font setting or modify it do set the font differently? |

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Kernel & Hardware.
Kernel stuff, not an installing gentoo question. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered
