|

I changed mail clients from evolution and then decided to update some packages. Prior to doing so I removed evolution and all it's packages. Gnome works perfectly well without it.
Code: | equery depends evolution |
The result is
Code: | app-office/openoffice-2.0.0
gnome-base/gnome-panel-2.12.1
gnome-base/gnome-2.12.0

emerge gnome-light instead of gnome.
Also, add "-eds" USE flag. _________________ Improve your font rendering and ALSA sound |

gnome-light is unmaintained and deprecated. It's better to emerge GNOME package-by-package (gnome-desktop, gnome-libs, gnome-applets, etc) if you want a lightweight installation. |

Gnome is a collection of applications and more recently the gods decided that evolution will be part of what makes up the Gnome desktop.
If having evolution on your system bugs you try adding it to /etc/portage/package.provided but note that evo2 is also a collection of packages so really just have it or get rid of evolution's deps if no other app uses it |
