when I look in /var/log/emerge/ I only see empty files (0 byte) with the name of the latest emerge as usual, since I have recently changed my make.conf to make use of distcc and ccache, after having read the gwn. maybe it's the cause of the pb. here is my emerge info :

Code:
Portage 2.0.47-r9 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.2, glibc-2.3.1-r2)
=================================================================
System uname: 2.4.20-gentoo-r1 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) processor
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.linux.no/pub/gentoo http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo"
CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/config"
CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d"
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles"
PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages"
PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp"
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage"
USE="x86 oss 3dnow avi crypt cups encode gif jpeg libg++ mmx mpeg ncurses nls pdflib png quicktime spell xml2 xmms xv zlib gdbm berkdb slang readline arts svga java X sdl gpm tcpd pam libwww ssl python imlib oggvorbis gtk qt kde motif opengl aalib acpi alsa apache2 -apm cdr dvd esd flash gtk2 -gnome imap lcms maildir mozilla mikmod perl sasl scanner tcltk tetex tiff truetype usb"
COMPILER="gcc3"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-march=athlon -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-functions=4 -fforce-addr -ffast-math"
CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-functions=4 -fforce-addr -ffast-math"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86"
MAKEOPTS="-j4"
AUTOCLEAN="yes"
SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
FEATURES="sandbox ccache distcc"

what doesn't appear in emerge info is PORT_LOGDIR=/var/log/emerge , defined in make.conf.

here is what I see in /var/log/emerge :

Code:
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:41 2751-xmms-1.2.7-r19.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:45 2753-xmms-1.2.7-r15.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:46 2754-psgml-1.38.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:47 2756-psgml-1.38.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:48 2758-readline-4.2a-r2.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:48 2760-readline-4.2a-r1.log
-rw-rw-r--    1 root     portage         0 2003-03-14 13:49 2761-readline-4.2a-r2.log

another thing : every time I emerge something I get this at the end :

Code:
>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

 * Regenerating GNU info directory index...
install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `//usr/share/info/distcc.info.gz'
 * Processed 76 info files; 1 errors.

could someone tell me what's wrong ?

Same thing here. Still I have not changed my make.conf in this regard and cannot remember having changed it at all in that timeframe...

Anybody ideas?

Thanks,
felix

It's happaened to me March-20, the day I've updated to Portage-2.0.47-r10. I don't see anything about it in bugzilla, so I've just submitted my bug report about it: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18987

Being advised to upgrade portage to 2.0.47-r13, I've tried and now I can confirm - it has fixed the problem :)

Now I am eager to get portage-2.0.47-r13 unmasked :roll:
