EDIT: I fixed the afformentioned issue with a quick edit of /etc/modules.d/alsa, and so now all the modules load fine, but it seems that I am not out of the woods yet!

Now, whenever I restarted ALSA (with /etc/init.d/alsasound restart), it throws this at me:
Code:

* Storing ALSA Mixer Levels ...
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1194: No soundcards found...
* Unloading ALSA ...
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:455:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file or directory
can't open sequencer
* Unloading ALSA modules ...
* Loading ALSA modules ...
*    Loading: snd-card-0 ...
*    Loading: snd-seq-oss ...
*    Loading: snd-pcm-oss ...
* Restoring Mixer Levels ...
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1281: Cannot find soundcard '0'...

Anyone know what this could be about?

kernel= 2.6.14-gentoo-r4

udev= ...listed as [ Not Installed ] ... Might this be the problem?

baselayout= 1.12.0_pre11-r3

Could be, unless you use a static /dev tree. devfs is no more supported by the kernel. You may want to take a look at this guide

I have hotplug and coldplug, just no udev. So, if I emerge udev, all will be fine then? I think I was using devfs before, and that's probably what fscked it up, because it's now obsolete.

Should be, although there's been some problem with recent udev versions. I'm running same baselayout, kernel 2.6.15-rc5 and udev-077-r5 (unstable, it's required by dbus for KDE 3.5.0).
