|
|
Well, after finally getting DVD::RIP to read my DVDs, I now have another delema.
I want to back up my dvd collection to VCD. I rip the track to the HD, and then go to the transcode tab. I select target format (S)VCD and the codec as VCD. I tell it to span two 730 meg disks, and then hit "Transcode + Split"
It starts to encode video title #1, single pass, but the ETA is like 7 minutes. It encodes for the 7 minutes, then restarts title #1 with same approximate ETA.
I checked the logs and am getting:

As you can see where I inserted the asterisks, it is aborting and then restarting the job. Does anyone know why?
If I let it run long enough, it eventually finishes, but I don't want to be wasting time if it isn't supposed to be doing this.
Thanks for any suggestions you can offer. |

I have seen this behaviour as well, and I assume that the progress tracking is only displaying the progress within each chapter of the selected DVD "track".
I suppose it is a bug of sorts, but I have come to see it as normal behaviour...
Hope this helps. |

Ok, that takes care of that, but there is something else.
If I encode to VCD, I don't seem to get any errors. However, if I choose SVCD as my codec (to improve quality), the transode goes fine, but then when it tries to multiplex with mplex, I get the following:
Quote: |

I did some searching for mplex frame drops, but came up emtpy handed. I also tried emerging the latest unstable mplex, but this didn't help either. I don't know for sure if it is mplex having the problem, or if it is working fine and there was an error before that is only being caught now.
LOL - All I want to do is burn a DVD to a descent quality VCD or SVCD, and I can't seem to get anything to work!!! |

Perhaps you could give myvcd a try. I never got around to trying it, but perhaps it will work better for you than dvd::rip.
It does rely on mplayer, so if you don't have that installed, it might not help. |

I'll give that a shot.
I'm guessing is uses mencoder rather than transcode? Anyway... thanks for the suggestion. I really like dvd::rip and its interface, but so far it simply has not worked fawlessly. |

Yes, I believe it uses MEncoder. I always had more success ripping to divx with MEncoder than dvd::rip. I hope it helps you. |
