Ok, I've read about 10 posts on Xinerama over the last two weeks.. but none of them seem to help my problem..

I don't know where to start to install Xinerama.. I havea dual head video card (Ati radeon) that I want to get xinerama working.. I've read tons of useful tips and tricks, someone about setting one screen to be to the right of the other etc..

But where do I start?? I mean, I guess I need the X server, but what else do I need for Xinerama to work? I've tried emerge -s xinerama but nothing came up...

I've google but everything seems to point to specific problems and resolutions.. in the context I have xinerama partially working but I want the alignment nicer or something like that..

Can anyone help me on my way to attempt to get xinerama installed? The ONLY thing I know about xinerama is that it is something that allows you to have two monitors.. I've also heard that KDE has very nice xinerama support... Do I need to set certain use flags for KDE so it compiles with xinerama? Ok, you should basically see what i know about xinerama.. NOTHING 8O

Any help would be appreciated, there is no tip too basic that you could tell me!

Thanks, Josh :)

There is no extra packages you need, it all comes with X...

You just need to setup screen, monitor, and device sections for each display is you XF86Config-4.... XFree86 -configure does a good job of this.

Then you just use startx like normal...

If you want both screens to act as 1 big desktop you start it with startx -- +xinerama

There are advantages to having independant desktops though :)
