I've got an Indy with maximum configuration: R5000SC-180, 256MB, XZ gfx. What is the state of hardware support on this machine? Is there an accelerated 3D Xserver available for the XZ gfx board? How about VINO support? Audio?

Thanks

Okay, you're looking good... except the XZ graphics.

Someone did recently get a framebuffer (okay, not quite, but you get my drift) console going on XZ, but he hasn't released the patches yet. (see this) Now, how long after that before an X driver comes into existance, nobody can say.

What is guaranteed though, is there'll be no X or OpenGL support for quite a while.

You can however, right now, use Serial Console to get the machine going. FB console will only be a matter of time now, and an X driver is a possibility, now there's some understanding on how these beasts work.

Otherwise, you're looking great. VINO was recently fixed in Linux 2.6... we now have a working V4L2 compatable driver ... although how well it works, I'm not sure. If you're looking for IRIX-grade performance, I think you'll be disappointed (especially since the SCSI driver only does 2MB/sec on a good day) ... but it's much better than what we had 12 months ago.

Sound (HAL2 audio), you'll be pleased to know, at least for playback, works fine -- my Indy makes an excellent MP3 jukebox. I haven't tested recording myself though, but see no reason why it wouldn't work.
