silo: One-shot boot of a new kernel and then back to default

Here's my problem:

My Netra only has a serial console, my laptop is a new-fangled one with no serial port AND I want to try a 2.6 kernel.

So, what I want to know is, can I configure Silo to one-shot boot a different kernel:

For example: silo defaults to the stable 2.4 kernel, but boots the 2.6 kernel once (and if it works - sweet) and if it doesn't work (i.e. I can't connect to the machine via the network) I can hard reset it and it will boot back into 2.4.

I have a feeling that grub can do this (or maybe not), can silo do this? Or is there any other way?

Hi,

As far as I know silo does not have that possibility.

A possible solution is equipping your laptop with an usb -> serial converter?

But probably the easiest way is borrowing a laptop from someone else?
