I'm trying to install Gentoo from the minimal Live CD, but i have two problems!
1) I downloaded the stage3 tarball, and the portage one. I untard the stage3, and then i tried to tar -xvjf the portage. But the only thing i can see, is the files scrolling in my screen and i can see a "Device has not enough room" or something do. I waited for 10~minutes for this to finish and in the end i just rebooted "by force" my PC. The problem is in my Partitions?
/dev/hda1 -> WindowsXP -> 50GB
/dev/hda2 -> /boot/ -> 32MB
/dev/hda3 -> Swap -> 1024MB
/dev/hda4 -> root -> 25GB
2) My second problem is that, when i have to leave or do something else, and i have to login in WindowsXP, everything i've done is cleared. I mean:
I download the stage3 and the portage, and then i "ctrl-alt-delete" out of the LiveCD, and when i get in again, there is nothing in /mnt/gentoo..Should that be, that way? Or i did something wrong?
Help me, plz.
Thx |

Sounds to me like you never mounted your root partition.
The LiveCD runs on a RAM disk which is reset with every system reboot. If you follow the steps in the Install Guide, this problem will vanish.

Your partitions are just fine .
I used this scheme once and it worked fine ...
As for the "clear" section i also believe that u type something wrong or not type at all at the mount section ...
Ofcourse don't try to refer to Windows if Gentoo aren't ready to welcome kde*.
*or other desktop enviroment. |
