Just got sound working...wondering how to get sound come out of ALL four speakers? Running a SBLive Value! card, with Cambridge Soundworks Digital 4.1 speakers. Speakers are connected to the Digital Out on sound card, however, sound only comes out the front two.....tried messing with alsamixer, but no luck... Any Suggestions are greatly appreciated.. Thanx in advance...

Have you tried using the emu10k1 drivers in portage? They work fine for me for 5.1 output, but I'm using analog outputs to my speakers. There is a setting in the config file for digital out though, which should work. My only complaint with the emu10k1 drivers is that I have to use the dial on the speakers to adjust the master volume, because all of the volume adjustments in the mixer apply to a pair of speakers or the center or the subwoofer or something, not master volume.

emerged alsa-driver, where ALSA_CARDS='emu10k1', and setup snd through alsa...

which config file?

Thanks!

the emu10k1 driver in portage as in emerge emu10k1. It's an OSS kernel module. The config file will be /etc/emu10k1.conf.

I would recommend using the free oss drivers for an SBLive. This is because I know they have full features/functionality/quality and I made an eBuild for them :)

Alsa doesn't use/have emu10k1.conf. I use my sblive 5.1 over alsa, BUT there are several issues:
1. to use digital out I need to use alsamixer(console) and mute(or unmute - try out i don't remeber exactly) the last mixer channel (called Analog/digital out)
2. the volume sliders change then, they're split in different (front-rear also left/right but the names are confusing - try out its very confusing/frustrating the first time)
3. there is no MASTER anymore (the most annoying fact)

Probably I will try emu10k1 ebuild - it is reported to have ac3passthrough and only two necessary mixerchannels (front-rear).
Let's see

/etc/emu10k1.conf wouldn't exist until you emerge emu10k1 and you would have to use OSS instead of Alsa to use it. I can't help you with ALSA. I've never had any problems with OSS though.
