After upgrading to linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r1 I got this from dmesg right after X has finished loading (which actually takes alot of time loading):
Code: |
1: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kernel Module 1.0-4191 Mon Dec 9
11:49:01 PST 2002

Edit 3: Whenever I change from a terminal on F1-F6, and back to where X is (usually F7) - I get another entry like those in the code-list above
Ive got the latest nvidia driver-ebuilds installed (kernel-4096-r2 and glx-4096-r1 (?)) and XFree4.3. Ive searched both google, bugs.gentoo.org and here, but none seems to write about this message. Any idea?
Hardware:
Gigabyte DPXDW-P Dual AMD
MP2000
MSI GeForce4 Ti4400
Edit: Now when I think of it, the power management for the monitor seems awfully strange too. It decides to suspend after just about 30 sec something, even though KDE Control Center is set for 5 min.
Edit 2: Another strange warning from dmesg after upgrade:
Code: |
eth0: TX underrun, threshold adjusted.
|
repeated several 100 times. Also mouse seems _very_ strange. Double click in konsole for marking doesnt work, neither does double click in gtk apps.
I dont understand this - Ive almost never had problems before when upgrading kernels. This time all hell breaks loose... Seems im on a highway back to 2.4.19... |

Ok, solved this partly... I decided to keep the 2.4.20 kernel, but instead use the nvidia drivers which are in the stable portage tree. And so far this seems to solve most of my problems
I actually booted from the 2.4.19 kernel again, with the latest nvidia drivers, and I got the same error then - so I guess there is a reason why 4096 is still masked. Dang, I never listen to that masked stuff... |
