mpeg4ip, faad2, faac... the AMD64 mess... [resolved]

Well, I just figured I'd rant.

1) Faad2/faac has never worked for me on AMD64. Xine, XMMS, GStreamer, and other apps that use them only give me crackly pops.
2) mpeg4ip works wonderfully, giving the same libraries that Faad2/faac gives.
3) Certain programs depend on either package, which is stupid, and is currently causing annoying and useless blocks on my terminal. They should all depend on one, or on a single, split library. This has been mentioned all over bugs.gentoo.org.
4) Also mentioned a bugs.gentoo.org, the developers upstream for either project are unwilling to seperate out their libraries so that harmony and interaction can occur.

WHY does it have to be this way? Why don't certain people *cough*developers*cough* think rationally? We're a community - interaction is GOOD!

You need to install ~amd64 faad2. It contains a patch to get it to work on amd64. Once I learned that, I've been happily using it.

I removed mpeg4ip, downgraded easytag to 1.99.7, and then installed faad2-2.0-r7 (~amd64) and faac 1.24, and it plays. Thanks... now if only this whole situation could iron itself out at the bug level...
