Hello,
I found it is still possible to find and compile the Mosaic source code.
Yes, Mosaic. Ye Olde WWW Browser. That Mosaic.
You can find it here, with instructions:

The page links a patched source for Mosaic that has been tested on systems so recent as Debian 2.2 (!!)... so I decided to give it a try and have a piece of computer history running on my Gentoo box.
Quite unexpectedly, the source code compiled with only a few warnings here and there.
When I start the binary, it loads up the splashscreen and the GUI... then it looks at the home page (or at least so I guess looking at the rapidly changing status bar)... then it crashes with this message:

Any hint? I'd really like to post screenshots of the Gentoo web site viewed with NCSA Mosaic

Download the static Linux binary, and it "Just Works".
(posted from NCSA Mosaic v2.7b5)
edit:
You could also set MALLOC_CHECK_=1 and try to run your build of mosaic again. |

Thank you! It works! I'm posting from NCSA Mosaic 2.7b5 too!
:D
I'll retry to compile the source, anyway. It would be damn cool to have a Mosaic ebuild in Gentoo
