I need help getting realplayer to work with ALSA. So far I've avoided installing the ALSA OSS-compatibility modules and I'd like to keep it that way. If I start realplayer, I get the error "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it." No surprise there - I assume it's looking for /dev/dsp, which doesn't exist under ALSA.

If I use
Code:
$ artsdsp realplay

it loads and plays the Welcome clip, but no sound comes out.

Now, I know (or assume) that aRts is working because KDE sounds work fine. In the KDE Control Center I have "Start aRts soundserver on KDE startup" set, and in Sound I/O "Sound I/O method: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture". So anything sent to aRts should be routed through into the ALSA sound system should it not?

Any ideas?
