I'm thinking of putting /etc under version control using something like subversion. Does anyone do this, and would there be any issues with doing this? |

You should not put the whole of /etc under version control. Notably files like ld.so.cache and mtab (and some others) should be excluded.
I tried to do this once for all my machines and started writing some scripts but something came up so I had not much free time for a few weeks and I forgot about it. |

Just use dispatch-conf + RCS.
Edit: of course, tarballing your /etc on a regular basis might not be a bad idea, either. _________________ If it ain't broke, tweak it. dvds | blurays | blog | wiki |
