xine can't read some of my music CDs

Like the topic says, xine can't read some of my music CDs. Most of them play fine but other just fail to work. I'm not sure if this is due to cd protection or not but the cd's I can't player are somewhat newer than the rest of my collection. I can play them fine in my stereo, so they arent ruined. Or is this just a general bug with xine and I should try another cd player? My cd-rom doesn't have a cable so if there is something else to try then keep that in mind.
